In class we will be learning about the different parts of speech and how they interact with each other in a meaningful way.
In September, we will be studying: Simple Tense and Irregular Past Tense Verbs, Adverbs that tell how, and Coordinating Conjunctions Simple Tense Verbs are past tense verbs that end in -ed. (ex: jumped, wondered) Irregular Verbs are past tense verbs that change the spelling of the verb from the present to the past tense. (ex: break chages to broke, sleep changes to slept) Coordinating Conjunctions: (and, but, so) are words that join nouns, verbs, and sentences. (ex: The women and the men played soccer but, the children still do.) Progressive Tense Verbs: (Verb ending with -ing) These verbs can be present (now), past (already happened), or future (will happen later) but they must end with -ing. (ex: At the park, children are swimming to escape from the heat.) Adverbs telling how: These are words that describe the action happening in the sentence. (ex: carefully, correctly, eagerly, easily, fast, loudly, patiently, quickly, quietly, and well.) ex: The bomb unit carefully disables the bomb before anyone got hurt. (carefully tells how they disabled) |
